  • Flow Meters – Gallons per minute tracking
  • Level Sensors – Low fill/high fill warnings
  • Pump Speed Monitoring – RPM and power consumption

Automation Examples

Extraction Tank Control

  1. Pre-chill extraction tank to target temperature
  2. Preheat solvent in heat exchanger
  3. Pump solvent into extraction tank at controlled rate
  4. Maintain temperature ±2°F during extraction time
  5. Alert operator when extraction is complete
  6. Log all parameters for batch traceability

Winterization Sequence

  1. Load crude oil into cold storage tank
  2. Activate glycol chiller
  3. Monitor chill-down rate and target temperature
  4. Trigger filtration pump when target temp reached
  5. Monitor filter pressure and adjust flow
  6. Alert when batch filtration complete

UL & cUL Certification

Control systems must meet:

  • UL 698-A – Safety standard for hazardous location controllers
  • NFPA 70 – National Electrical Code compliance
  • C1D2 Rating – Division 1, Group C & D hazardous locations
  • Emergency Shutdown – Manual kill switches at control panel
